Mask Talk

I’m still not convinced that mask actually work to protect us from Covid. They may help against the spread of a sneeze or cough but thats it. Mask help protect you from germs not viruses.

My full time day job does not require anyone to wear a mask, but my part time weekend job does. If I want to make money, I must comply. So if im going to have to wear a mask for 5 plus hours, I want them to be at least comfortable.

I have several different styles of mask but my favorite is the disposable type. I like that they are light weight, and the straps are thin without a strong elastic pull on my ears.

My daughter brought me a couple pretty floral disposable masks. They were so dog gone cute that I hated to just wear them one time. This made me decide to do a little experiment and try hand washing them. It worked!
Using an antibacterial soap, I placed the mask between my two hands and gently rubbed until it it was sudsy, then rinsed it well, squeezed out the excess water and hung it to dry. To my surprise it washed up great and the inside was clean and white again. The mask did not tear up or lose its shape.

This is a photo after being washed. It was soiled with makup.

Now I can wear my mask more than once but I do not recommend washing it more than twice. I mean, they are made to be disposable.

I really hope they end this mask mandate, but I do not see that happening anytime soon. Meanwhile, here are a few little mask hacks to help them be easier to wear whether its a washable cloth mask or a disposable mask.

  • If you have a cold or sinus problems, rub a little menthol around top where it fits over your nose.
  • Does your mask have a filter? Try adding a drop or two of essential oils for some health and healing benefits.
  • Rubbing the mask between your hands, gently rub in your favorite facial, skin or fragrant lotion to help keep your face from feeling dry.
  • If you have a roll on for your oils, you can rub a little around the edges. I love my stress relief roller.
  • If your mask is too big, cross the straps once before putting them behind your ears.
  • You can add buttons to your headband, beanie or ball cap to use instead of around your ears.

Without getting political (if thats possible), I would like to know how you feel about masks.

Skin Check

After Covid halted non emergency doctor visits and a few reschedules later, I was finally able to go to my dermatologist appointment. This was the first time I received a full body skin check.

At the first of the year, I visited the dermatologist with a concern. I had a tiny red spot on my forehead that would not go away. It turned out to be a minor type of skin cancer called “basal cell Carcinoma”. I had it removed then it was stressed to me to come back and have a full body scan. So I did.

The visit was pleasant and painless but not what I expected. I thought the check would be more thorough. There were no bright lights or magnifying glasses. I had to undress to my under clothes and wait. The dermatologist entered the room and quickly looked through my scalp and worked her way down to my toes. It took no more than 3 minutes for the complete skin check. I’m guessing if she saw some concerns she would have taken a closer look.

I am happy to announce that I had no questionable spots. She said I only had sun freckles and lectured me on my sun exposure and the need for sun screen to protect my skin from sun damage.

Speaking of sun damage. The dermatologist introduced me to a highly recommended supplement called “Heliocare”. It’s made to reduce the signs of aging and protect the skin from damages caused by the sun. It’s a sun protector that works from the inside out.

“Where was this stuff 30 years ago?”

Heliocare is a natural supplement with no side effects and is safe enough for anyone to take. It can be found over the counter in the vitamin section. I think it is costly at a price around 25.00. I was advised to take two capsules a day during the summer with one being taken within an hour to going out into the sunshine. During the Winter I will only need to take one a day.

We spend a lot of time at the beach and love spending the days relaxing outdoors. These will come in handy for sun lovers like us. Yes, us. My husband plans to take this supplement as well.

Maybe we can now stop aging? Ha, I wish!

5K On The Sand

I mentioned in my last post that I would be doing a virtual 5K for my home town’s  “Community Foundation Run”. This is a big event held each year. There is a lot of money raised for different charity/ organizations. I registered for the run a few weeks ago. It was to be held on April the 4th. Due to the Covid-19 scare, they chose to cancel the race and asked everyone to do it virtually on our own time between now and midnight April 4th.

I decided to do the 5k (3.10miles) while I was at the beach. I thought I would be at an advantage running on a flat beach one way and back.
I was wrong.
Have you ever tried to run on sand? It was not that easy. I ran on dry firm sand but I did not have that bounce in my run to help my stride.

Nick made sure to stay behind me as he did his regular morning walk. I stayed in his view. He can almost walk as fast as I run. He turned and headed the other way before I started coming back (now he was in my view and I never caught up with him). He did this so he could beat me to the end to take a photo of my finish.

This was my 3rd 5K. The first one I did was a couple years ago. I was 10lbs lighter and finished at 38.34 minutes. This time I came in at 41.29.
I never prepare for these things. This time I had a big meal the night before and was still sore from a workout my daughter had me doing just a couple days ago. I walk every day, but never run, so when I do a 5k run, I will run a little and walk a little. Maybe one day I will train myself to beat my record instead of lose to myself.

I logged into the site and entered my time and a photo for proof. I will be receiving a T-shirt in the mail soon.

I doubt I will, but if I am the winner in my age group (female 50-55) I will receive a great amount to donate to a charity of my choice. My choice will be the Crisis Pregnancy Center. This is a Christian organization that help pregnant ladies make the right choices for their unwanted pregnancy through counseling and/or adoption.

I am back home on higher ground now. I wish I could have stayed longer at the beach. It was so nice down there but It was suppose to rain the rest of the week and with nothing open we didn’t want to sit in the camper every day. It was fun while it lasted.

The Dreaded Dental Exam

I never suffer anxiety the way I do when I need to go to the dentist. I dread it so much. Even though my dentist has never hurt me, I am scared to death to go. Growing up, we never went to the dentist unless we had a pain level above an eight. Those habits have carried on with me into my adulthood. However, I always made sure my daughter went regularly. Her teeth are still beautiful. Mine, not so much.

I am ashamed of my teeth as they have become more and more crooked and stained through the years. I admit, I do not get regular cleanings like I should. In fact, it’s been years. They are sensitive and hurt. So a couple weeks ago I bit the bullet and went with the intentions of getting another bad tooth pulled. That’s usually how long I wait to go. I can’t afford root canals so I have had three pulled in my life.

During my visit, the dentist took an xray and examined my hurting tooth. He said, “We are not going to pull this tooth. I see nothing wrong with it and your pain is just tooth sensitvity”. I was given a tube of special toothpaste and advice to come back for a full exam.

So yesterday I went for the full dental exam. I was scared and nervous that It was going to be painful. After the dentist took full xrays, he began stabbing my gums with a prison shank. It was not comfortable, but It was bearable. I’m glad that’s over.

Good news: I did not have any cavities or serious issues. No bone loss and my gums are healthy. I was so surprised! I just suffer from tooth sensitivity.
Bad news: I need a couple old fillings replaced, one crown and .....braces.

This is a big deal for me. I need to think about seeing the orthodontist about the braces. This is a decision I will need to make. I do not have dental insurance and my health insurance breaks me each month. I mentioned braces to Nick and he is not 100% on board.
He’s thinks my teeth are fine the way they are but I know they are not, but do I really need to go through all the expense when I can just have the fillings fixed and have them bleached of the stains? I may loose sleep over this one.

The plan: I have a cleaning scheduled in two weeks. I am already nervous just thinking about that. Yikes. Then I plan to call and set up a consultation with the Orthodontist just to see what braces will cost me and whats all involved. I just paid my car off so maybe I can afford a payment plan. I just don’t know. I don’t want any bills.

I would love to have pretty teeth. I would feel better about my appearance and smile a lot more, but then again, I am 50 years old and could live out the rest of my life with them crooked and save a few grand. Decisions, decisions.

Do you have braces or ever had them?  If so, what is your experience?

One Week Caffeine Free

Hello, My name is Lisa and I’m a coffeeholic.
That's right, I love coffee and drink it every day.  As my daddy would say “I like my coffee leaded, not unleaded”.

Every morning I jump out of bed and head to the kitchen for a rich cup of Joe. It’s like a hug in a cup. After breakfast, my husband fills up my 20oz Yeti cup with coffee and cream and I head off to work. I will sip on this coffee til noon. I think I could have, might of been addicted. The doctors have told me for years to stop the caffeine.

Well due to some other health concerns, Me and Nick have decided to stop the caffeine cold turkey. We headed out to the grocery store and purchased a small canister of decaffeinated coffee to give it a try. Folgers black silk is our coffee of choice and were happy to have found it in decaf.

The first day, I dreaded getting up for a cup of coffee knowing my get up and go was not going to be there. It was a lot of mind over matter on how I felt. I thought about it all day and waited on a head ache. It never came. All I could think about was how I was going to feel later.

The third day is when it hit me. Half way through the day, I felt tired, was grumpy and had a faint headache. I think this was the hump in the road.
The next days forward, I have felt fine and adjusting well.

It’s been a week now and I feel good. My energy level might be a little lower but only in the mornings. By the afternoons, I’m normal. If there is such thing as normal. Haha.

Here are a few things I’ve noticed after going caffeine free.
-I seem to be in a better mood and not as uptight.
-I think even my skin is detoxing from caffeine as I’m noticing some acne on my shoulders.
-I feel fresher.
-I’m sleeping better. I look forward to going to sleep now. However, I am having lots of weird dreams. Not sure if its related.
-My Meneire’s ear seems to be a little better. The doctor said that caffeine and salt are two major triggers so I hope this works. Time will tell.

I read that when going caffeine free, just take a B12 Vitamin for the same energy.
I have always taken a B12 in the mornings. Maybe this has helped me survive this week.

Will I stay caffeine free? Probably not, but I will definitely be drinking mostly caffeine free at home. I will not turn down a cup of loaded coffee from Starbuck when I cross one and then there’s chocolate. A girl has gotta have her chocolate.

Sweat Treats Skin Care

I have mentioned before that I am trying to resort to more natural products for my skin and even in what I eat. I just feel that natural is always better when it comes to self care. When you use natural ingredients, you are eliminating harmful substances that can lead to health problems in the long run.

A couple of weeks ago I received some products from Sweet Treats and I can't be more excited to share with you these awesome items that are hand crafted with natural and safe ingredients.

Sweat Treats is a mother daughter owned company that have a passion for making quality natural bath and body products that are safe and effective for any skin types. Ingredients found in Sweet Treats skin care are sulfate free with no harmful toxins, or strong perfumes added. Best of all, no animals were used in making or testing of these products.

I have been starting each day using this Pearl Micellar Water. The pear brightens my skin for a more radiant glow. It works great as a toner before I apply my makeup in the mornings. In the afternoons I use it as a makeup remover. It even removes mascara.

It is PH balanced to gently cleanse my face. I simply saturate a cotton round or cotton ball and gently wipe across my face. The best thing is, there is no need to rinse. Also, there was no burning or irritation and left my skin feeling fresh and clean throughout the day and night. It is gentle enough to use every day.

Another product I am enjoying is this awesome Coffee Face Cream

Wait, coffee on your face? When I first applied this cream on my face I could smell the aroma of coffee. I thought for sure I was going to smell like a Starbucks, but within minutes it had absorbed into my skin and there was no leftover coffee smell at all.

I have been applying this cream to my face before bed or under my makeup in the mornings.
Coffee has been known to reduce signs of aging in mature skin. This cream leaves my face feeling firm and soft, and at my age, I sure could use something to fight those pesky wrinkles. After about the 3rd day, I could already feel a difference in my skin and complexion.

If coffee is not your thing, Sweet treats offers other face creams to fit different skin needs such as Green tea (great to reduce redness), Pearl (heals scars and acne), Papaya (antioxidants great for over night) and Orchid (prevents aging).

I can not wait to purchase some of the other facial, bath or even candle products they offer. It feels good to support small business while knowing your getting quality products that are naturally made. I do not like having to worry about allergic reactions due to chemicals or harsh ingredients.

As a bonus, I received the cutest lip balm also made with natural ingredients.

I like this lip balm because I can apply it any time I need to hydrate my lips and I do not have to worry about the waxy residue left behind like some other chap sticks or lip balms. I love anything made with coconut oil. Oh and did I mention, it smells sweet too?

LiuYX Cervical Pillow

A couple years ago I was in agonizing upper back pain and made a visit to the doctor. I was diagnosed with a pinched nerve and muscle spasms. Those finally subsided but the back pains continue off and on. I made a visit to my Chiropractor last year. He did an x-ray on my back and told me I do not have the normal cervical spine I am suppose to. This resulted in me having a compressed C6 disk and a lot of discomfort.

After several visits to the chiropractor with no positive outcomes, I gave up. My back pains are off and on but always in the upper cervical spine and neck area. I have suffered for years now and have just learned to deal with it. I will relax and change my positions until I'm comfortable. I blame it a lot on the fact I work in front of a computer all day and do a lot of crocheting on my free time.

I was so excited when I received this LiuYX Cervical Pillow. I can finally get the relief I need and hope it adds comfort to the pains I suffer.

The LiuYX cervical back pillow is designed to cradle and support the neck and allow shoulders to relax. It has massage traction for pain relief and cervical spine alignment. It gently suspends your head and neck for a relaxing sensation as your head gently floats on the unique cradling design. The memory sponge padding is not only soft but also allows air to flow keeping your head cool and eliminates sweat.

The LiuYX Cervical Pillow is easy to use. I simply placed it on the back of head and positioned it until I was comfortable. Then I slowly leaned my head back and relaxed. I quickly felt relief.

I thought it was very comfortable and relieved some tension in my neck and spine in as little as five minutes. This pillow can be used while sitting or laying down. All you need is a surface to lean back on. However, it is not to be used while driving or sleeping.

Unlike most other cervical pillows, this one is small and discrete. The area you place your head in is about the size of two cupped hands. I love that this special pillow is small enough to throw in a tote and take with me to work or long car rides where sitting a long time can bring on more stress to my back. It is recommended to use 2 or 3 times a day for 15 to 20 minute at a time. Not only have I used it while watching TV or stretching out after a workout, but It actually worked perfect in the tanning bed too.

Homemade Toothpaste with MorningPep Xylitol

I am no tree hugger, but I do believe natural remedies are the best. They are healthier and will save me money in the long run. If it saves trees, then I'll take that as a bonus. With that being said, I've been introducing myself to more natural products lately. I want to be more natural and rid myself of as many toxins as possible.

It is hard to find items and ingredients that do not contain harmful junk in them such as toothpaste. I mean, have you ever looked at the warning label on your toothpaste? There is stuff in there that I cannot even pronounce. Do I really want to use that? It hasn't hurt me in all these years, but really, who knows?

I was just looking at the branded toothpaste the other day and there are warning labels containing statements such as, “If ingested contact poison control." I'm pretty sure we all have eaten toothpaste before. I also read " Do not use more than 4 weeks." So, what are you supposed to do after 4 weeks? Stop using toothpaste? I’ll admit, I do not have real good teeth, but I have brushed my teeth regularly all my life. I’m ready to try alternatives. I believe things are put on this Earth for the good. Therefore, natural is best.

I have been wanting to make my own toothpaste for a while so I began doing some research on natural options and found the perfect concoctions.

One ingredient I used is Morning Pep Xylitol 100% pure natural sweetener (made in the USA).
This sweetener is perfect for coffee and baking as it looks and tastes just like sugar (without the bitter after taste other sweeteners can leave behind). It contains 40% fewer calories than sugar, low carb and glycemic index, making it safe for diabetics. There are also no wheat, soy, dairy, corn, or gmo found in this product. It is also declared safe by FDA.

So why am I using this in my natural tooth paste recipe? Other than adding a pleasant sweetness to my tastes buds, Xylitol also has many dental health benefits. Here are just few just to mention:
  • Starves and kills bacteria for better oral health.
  • Protects tooth enamel as it has the ability of materialization deep in the layers of enamel.
  • Great for bone health (so remember that when using it as a sweetener for ingestion).
  • Fights yeast bacteria.
  • It even reduces inner ear health by killing bacteria in the mouth that can cause ear infections.
Are you ready for the recipe to this remarkable tooth paste using only 4 ingredients? Well wait no longer. Start bettering yourself with this and other safe natural home remedies.

Natural Homemade Toothpaste

1/2 Cup -Coconut Oil (also kills harmful bacteria)
3 Tbls- Baking Soda (for whitening)
1 Tbls- Xylitol (sweetener with dental benefits )
1 Tsp *Mint Flavoring.
*I used pure mint flavoring but you can also use cinnamon or essential oils.

Melt the coconut oil in a glass bowl for about 30 seconds in microwave.
Once melted, add remaining ingredients and mix until smooth.
Place in a small glass jar with lid and let cool completely before using.
(The oil will separate, so I would just shake the jar a couple times during cooling to keep it mix up
or you can simply mix it before using.
Either way makes a nice paste)

To use: Dip toothbrush directly or use small spreader or spoon.
You can also add the paste to a small silicon squeeze bottle then apply to toothbrush. I found my little bottle at the dollar store. It’s actually a salad dressing holder and it works perfect.

I will be using this MorningPep Xylitol sweetener in a lot of my baking and as a necessity for my morning cup of Joe.
So stay tuned for some healthy sugar free recipes coming soon.

Oatmeal Pancakes with Collagen

My goal this year is to reverse my age improve my health not only on the inside but on the outside as well. One of the things I started doing this year is taking Collagen supplements. When I say collagen, your probably thinking plump lips. Come on, yes you did. But no, I'm not talking about movie star style lip "injections" of collagen. I'm talking about a different kind of collagen.

I'm adding collagen powders to my coffee or drinks and sometime in my foods. That's why I wanted to show you these delicious pancakes I made using only three ingredients: oatmeal, applesauce and an one egg. Then I just added my flavorless collagen powder into the mix as my own preferenc.

Collagen is a protein that is crucial to supporting hair, skin and nails. It will improve your skin by reducing dryness and wrinkles (This is where I sign up). Not only does collagen work for your outside appearance, it may also increase muscle mass, relieve joint pain and prevent bone loss. I read that it could actually cause weight loss if taken 30 minutes before a meal. It will make you feel full and you will not want to eat so much. I'm in! (Source)

Our body naturally produces collagen every day, but as we grow older, it slows down. That's when we start getting wrinkly and our hair, skin and nails lose strength and glow. I should start seeing results in 4-6 weeks according to the info I've' read.

* My friend Hazel said "It's amazing how ground up cow bones can have so many awesome benefits!" haha gotta love her! (Source)

Now back to the pancakes. You can just leave the collagen out. I mean, some of you don't have hair or wrinkles anyway, so.....

These pancakes are a healthier option to the ones mom makes. So do not expect them to be as good as Aunt Jamima's, or Hungry Jack's because they are not. However, they are better for ya.... I think..

Oatmeal Pancakes
Makes 4 (serving size 2)
130 calories and 5 grams of protein per serving
  • 1/2 cup quick oats (processed into a flour texture is optional but best).
  • 1 Egg
  • 1/2 cup applesauce.
  • 1 scoop collagen or protein powder - (optional).
Pour into a in a heated skillet and make as you would any other kind of pancakes.

Top with you favorite topping.
I used zero calorie spray butter and sugar free syrup.

This container of collagen was given to me
by my sweet friend Hazel to try before I buy.

This and other brands can be found in most stores
such as Walmart, Target and Amazon.

*Not vegan friendly

New Year New Goals

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Hope everyone is doing great and recovering from the mid night activities. My husband and I went out for a nice dinner then back home to start the preparation for my annual family New Years Dinner. We are not fans of late night partying. We like to stay in and stay sober.

I started my morning off using this little New Years coaster I whipped up for fun.

Crochet pattern HERE.

I love having a coaster under my coffee mug so it doesn't clank on the table.

Later, we will be enjoying a feast of meat, black eye peas, collard greens, potatoes, macaroni n cheese, bread and dessert. When everyone comes, I can have a crowd of about 13 people. However, now that the nephews are all grown up, they can't be forced to come over and eat greens.

Do you make resolutions for the new year?
I don't make what I call resolutions but I do make goals for myself. Here are my top five.
I will always be adding new goals throughout the year.

1. I have lost the weight, now I want to get healthier.
My goal is to be able to run a mile without stopping, be able to do 50 sit ups by my 50th birthday, and loose another 10 lbs by Summer. I will also be taking more vitamins and collagen to help with my skin and muscles.

2. My car will be paid off in July.
My goal is to purchase a new one by Fall. I like to keep a new car so I never have to worry about putting money into always fixing an old one. I like warranty protection and new car smells.

3. I want to get more involved in blogging.
My goal is to get more involved as an influencer while still keeping my blog personal.
I want to build my blog followers and reach out more.

4. Keeping up- I can never keep a planner going. I always fall short. I find it easier to just jot things down to remember other than adding them to a certain date on a calendar.
My goal is to start a bullet style journal using my new "Rocketbook" for keeping blog ideas, to do list, social media activities, and goals. I will keep using my Google calendar on my phone and iPad for appointments and events. This also keeps "Alexa" in the loop. haha.

5. Call me crazy, but I want to start a small Loofah garden.  I think it will be something different to try and fun results at the end.
My goal is to be able to actually get it to produce.

....Not sure about number five. Nick is over there shaking his head. Well, see. I have already bought the seeds.

Do you have any new plans for the new year?

I Think I'm weird

As I get older, the more the thought of germs bother me. After doing a lot of shopping and food swapping the past couple days It's made me more concerned that I may have a problem. Some may think I'm a little weird and they may be right but I think we all have some weird ways about us that others can't seem to understand.

I think I may be a germaphobic.

Here are a few examples:

  • I do not like to sit on fabric chairs in a waiting area or movie theater.
  • We want even talk about hotel beds.
  • In a restaurant, I will not touch the edge of the table or chairs where my fingers may touch underneath.
  • Speaking of restaurants, I cringe when they wipe the seats and table with the same cloth.
  • I will not eat any foods at a pot luck or covered dish dinner unless I know who's kitchen it came from.
  • I do not want to eat food from someone with cats. yea, I have had cats and I know how they shed and jump on counters. I know I'd wipe it clean but I don't know about others.
  • If I see you messing with your hair in the kitchen, I will loose my appetite.
  • I keep hand sanitizer with me all the time in case someone shakes my hand. I'd rather be hugged.
  • I cringe when someone lets their dog kiss their face. Dogs lick themselves. eeeesh!
  • I use a shower house when I go camping, but freak out if I touch the wall! and Flip flops will be worn at all times in there.
  • I will not eat foods that look like they were handled a lot in preparation, such as decorative cookies or desserts with lots of creativeness put in them.
  • I will not try on a hat in a store.
  • I can't wait to get home and wash my feet after trying on shoes and I will no try shoes on barefooted.
  • Don't ask me if you can try my shoes on. It bothers me.
  • I will eat at a buffet but I constantly think about who's touching what.
  • I have to wash my hands after I make my plate because of the germs on all those spoon handles everyone shares.
  • I will pull and push public doors open with my elbows or sleeves if at all possible.
  • I always wash my grocery buggy down with wipes then head to the produce for a plastic bag to cover the buggy handle.
  • and if you as much as hiccup around me during flu season, I might mace you with Lysol.

Well? Am I normal? or am I weird? I do not go into panics and I hid my concerns when I am out with friends and family but the concern is still there. It may not be really a Phobia. It's just a figure of speech.

The only time I do not feel the phobia is around my husband or daughter. I have a strong stomach as a caring mother and wife and can handle any of their sicknesses accidents or boo boos like a boss!

Clio Snack bars

I have found a love for yogurt. But not just any yogurt. I found these little Greek yogurt bars by Clio at my local Walmart. It was love at first bite. They taste like little cheese cakes, I kid you not!

I am not a fan of yogurt and I struggle to find a yogurt I will eat. You may ask, "why eat yogurt anyways? Well, I know that yogurt is a good source of calcium, protein and probiotics. Our bodies need these things. Yogurt is a healthy snack. I mean, we all need yogurt in our diet. It can be used as an alternative in a lot of recipes too.

As I am still on the Nutrisystem diet, these yogurts fit right in as my recommended morning or afternoon snack while still staying on plan. They are 140 calories and have 8 grams for protein.
These bars are also gluten free.

You will love Clio Greek yogurt bars. You do not need a spoon, oh no. Just use your fingers. These little yogurt bars are small but do not let that fool ya on the flavor or satisfaction. Clio yogurt bars come in a variety of flavors and plan to ad some new flavors in the future. It takes a while to perfect the flavor for each bar.

Dipped in a rich dark chocolate, they will satisfy your sweet tooth.
It's a win all the way around. I purchase a week supply at a time. I could honestly eat these for 3 meals a day.

Currently, you can only find Clio bars at Select grocery stores and Amazon. The flavors that are on the market right now are Vanilla, Espresso, Hazelnut, Strawberry, Blueberry and Honey. My favorite is the Vanilla and Honey.

So get ya shoes on and head out to grab a few for a non guilt snack!

Your welcome!

What is Your Why?

We all make goals for ourselves. For me it was to lose 30 pounds. I went above that goal and lost 50. I did this with *Nutrisystem. I'm not going into my whole speech about how great this diet works or how good it makes me feel. You can simply find that information on one of the page tabs at the top of my blog.

I'm posting today about one of the struggle most dieters go through. I am guilty too.

I have not fallen off the diet, but those pieces of moms cakes have started getting bigger on my plate.
My hula hoop routines have turned into arm workouts using the recliner handle.
My three mile walks have turned into half miles walks around the grocery store.
You get it? Need I say more? Ok ill say it......I put on an extra eight pounds that I do not want.
My pants have started getting snug, my energy level is low and I am feeling that low self esteem creeping up on me.

It's hard. I work alone in a tiny office eight hours a day. I do not get a lot of motivation to do anything for myself. I simply do not have extra money to join a gym or hire a fitness trainer. It's easy to get depressed, to envy others and just loose all hope of ever bettering myself.

I have to ask myself "what is my why?' I had a reason for dieting in the first place. There was a “why” I made that choice. For me, it was to be able to wear those cute outfits again, to get my energy back and to have a healthier lifestyle. I put a lot of work into getting there so why would I want to just let it go?

So, I refuse to let cake and recliners win. I'm grabbing the bull by the horns and plan to push myself harder to get that extra eight lbs off. I love that I have Nutrisystem foods stocked up and my Nutrisystem friends are always there to motivate me.

Dieting is a life style change. I compare it to a drinkaholic. You simply can not give into what destroys you. You have to stay away from the temptations (that's why I have not had a Krispy Kreme doughnut since Jan 2015). You have to always fight to stay on track. We have to push ourselves to be better and not fall back into bad habits. Only we can make this decision.

So if your trying to reach a goal and feel like giving up, put your hat back on on remember why you started in the first place.

Salt Pillow

I’ll be the first to admit that I am not a big believer on all this holistic therapies like the essential oils and herbs for example. Don’t get me wrong, I do not doubt they play positive rolls for natural alternatives for some as they did back in the Bible days, but I just don’t always buy it. I have tried some of the oils but never find they help with any kind of healing. Not that they don't, I just haven't experienced it. However, I do believe in aroma therapy as I think smells can react on how you feel. I think some smells will make you feel energize while others can relax you. That’s about as far as I will go with the holistics.

I have always heard that Himalayan salt rock is good for the air around you. I have never had a salt rock but have always wanted one and would also love to visit a salt cave and sit awhile just to see.

While out and about the other day, My husband pointed out these salt pillows.

They were a good price so I said, “ok why not”. Let just see what it does. I mean, I could use a heat activated pillow for my earaches, headaches and tummy cramps”. So purchased it and brought it home. It sat next to my chair for a couple days while I just sort of looked at it. I was waiting on a day I felt I needed some soothing comfort.

If you know me, you know I suffer from symptoms of Meniere’s and Tinnitus. My left ear will practically go deaf and the feeling of fluid pressure and dizziness will take over my head. This can go on for days at a time with a couple good days in between. I will wake up with head aches and those days can be rotten.

I decided to take this little pillow to bed with me. I lay my left ear against it and I'm out like a light. Since I have been sleeping with this pillow against my head, I have not woken up with a head ache like I used to do every morning. I also have not had any symptoms of Meniere’s and vertigo in over three weeks now. I am aware that as soon as I finish this post I could have a flare up as they will hit without warning, but I can’t help but wonder if this little pillow is really working or if it's all in my head?

It weights 2.2 lbs and can be heated in the microwave for one minute and used as a heating pad. With the weight and heat combined, I'm sure it will work great for cramps. It can also be placed in the freezer and used as an ice pack.

Salt holds temperature extremely well, whether hot or cold. Himalayan Salt Healing Pillow is filled with 100% natural Himalayan salt crystals. The pillows weight provides gentle pressure while conforming comfortably to the face and body's natural curves. Crystal salts last indefinitely and can be used over and over again.

You can purchase a pillow like this at most department stores such as Target or Walmart or any health stores or pharmacy. I actually picked mine up at Hamricks Department Sore.

Or just go straight to the company.

Nutrisystem- Success Update

I guess you can say I'm obsessed with Nutrisystem. I have been on the program now over three years. I absolutely love the foods. Not one time have I ever gotten sick or had even the slightest tummy ache from eating any of their foods and believe me, I've tried them all. Do I like them all? Na, there are a few of the meals I will turn my nose up to. However, what I may not find tasty, others may like, so its just a matter of preference.

Nutrisystem has changed my life. I have learned to eat healthier and I feel good. My yearly checkups and blood work are great. I have more confidence and better self esteem. I can now wear the bikinis, tight jeans, and yoga pants proudly. I am about 5 lbs away from the weight I want to be and still have room to enjoy that piece of cake or mama's biscuits every now and again.

I'm far from having the perfect body, but I am happy now in my 49 year old skin. Oh and speaking of skin. Since I have been on Nutrisystem, my skin seems to be more healthy too. I no longer experience the up and downs of oily to dry skin and have not had the adult acne in years. I guess my only complaint is the loose skin I have from losing 50 lbs. I'm working on that.

I have more energy. There were times when I didn't even feel like tying my shoes. I would drag myself in and out of the car and I could forget about sitting on the floor. Honestly, I was just lazy and always bloated from eating junk food. Now I can't wait to get my day started as I jump out of bed after a good night sleep, have a healthy breakfast and head to work feeling giddy with a better attitude. Just kidding. I hate going to work, but I do have a better attitude. sometimes.

During my weight loss journey, I have been invited to three Nutrisystem commercial/ photo shoots and have attended two of them. It's been so much fun meeting a couple celebrities and making new friends that are on the same weight loss journey as me. They all have a different story but at the end of the day we all have inspired each other with our success. Those people you see on any Nutrisystem products or websites are real people just like you and me.

I currently eat a lot of my own foods and maintain my weight with Nutrisystem meals, so my journey is not over. If you have followed me, you know that I also like to experiment with Nutrisystem foods and flex meals (meals that are equivalent to NS meals).

With that being said.....

I am proud to announce that I have been contacted by Nutrisystem to join their team as a Nutrisystem Ambassador! How cool is that? This gives me more opportunity to share my food photos and success stories with others that might be struggling to find the right diet or healthy meals. Be sure to follow @Nutrisystem and me @lilidi_meo on Instagram and/or Facebook.
You may see more of my blog post about heathy foods (thought I’d never say that! Ha) and diet motivations during the next few months.

I never know where my journey will take me next.

Favorite Face Products

People will ask me how I stay looking so young. I'm not sure if they say this to pay me a complement or just to make me feel good. I will giggle inside and blush a little because I know what I see when I look in the mirror.

Behind the make up and camera filters I see years of sun damage, sagging skin and crows feet around my eyes. I'll be 50 before long so I accept it. I am trying really hard to take care of myself as I grow older. I want to stay looking as young as I feel.

So for those who wonder,
First, I keep it pretty simple. I do not use any special cleansers on my face. I normally just use this Micellar Cleansing Water from Garnier. You can get it at just about any store like Target, Walmart, or Walgreen.

This stuff is awesome. It gently cleanses my face and removes any makeup. It's also safe to use on my eyes. There are no harsh chemicals or perfumes. After my shower, I will apply this cleaner using a cotton round and there is no need to rinse. Just wipe and go.

Second, I do not use any wrinkle creams. Believe me, I've tried several kinds and none of them work. What I use instead is this Baby Oil Cream. Yes that's it. Aloe Vera & Vitamin E.
.

It works better than any other moisturizer or wrinkle cream I have ever tried. I use the store brand from Walmart and it works just as good as the Johnson's brand. Don't let the "oil" part scare ya. It will leave your face soft without feeling oily at all. I love it. I have even applied it to my neck and shoulders. I notice in the mornings that some of my wrinkles and crinkles are plumped out and I look refreshed and less fatigued. Men, you can use it too.

Lastly, I do not like wearing a gooey base makeup during the summer. I like my face to feel light and fresh in the heat. What I use is this BB cream from L'Oreal. It is basically a light lotion with antioxidants and vitamin C&E. I use this as my foundation.

BB cream really is like a little magic skin beautifier. It comes in fair, light, medium or deep. This cream comes out of the bottle white colored but once it is applied to my face, it blends with my skin tone and evens everything out. I like the natural bare face finish. I also think it gives my skin a shimmery glow.

What are some of your favorite face products?

I was not asked, paid or given any of these products for my review. They are all purchased myself. These are my personal everyday choices and honest opinions..

Loreal BB Cream (Beauty Balm)

Exercise

People often ask me what I do for exercise. My answer is “Not much”.

I do not belong to any gym, dance teams or boot camps. I used to do zumba classes twice a week but that did not work for me. It kept me energized but I never lost any weight in several years of doing Zumba.
I do not do yoga. I am not against people doing yoga and know that it has a lot of balance and strengthening benefits, but as a Christian, I choose to stay away from it.

So, What do I do?

I WALK. I do a lot of walking. For example: I do not try to park close to the door when I go shopping. We will park at the top of the parking lot and walk. If there are other stores around, we walk to those instead of driving the short distance. I mean, if you walk there, you got to walk back. Right?  Unless of course I'm alone, Then I will park as close to the door as I can for security.
In the afternoons, my husband and I will take a fast pace walk around the neighborhood. We do almost 3 miles in about 45 minutes. I try do do this every day. We enjoy this time together. We love to walk and talk about our day, greet neighbors and pet dogs along the way. It’s not only healthy for our heart, its healthy for our togetherness.

I Hula Hoop- I love to hula hoop on my fitness hoop. When I thought I would never be able to hoop, I purchased an adult size hula hoop. It’s weighted and padded and I was able to work it! Ha. It’s crazy how with the right size and weighted hoop I was able to bring back that childhood fun again. The hula hoop works great for toning abs and legs. I put music in my ears and hula hoop for about 20-30 minutes. On top of that, I have been doing a 30 day challenge using an app called FXP Fitness for strength and stretch.

Fitness hoop - Walmart  (I actually got mine here at TJMaxx)

When I want to play, I grab a regular hula hoop. This is more like the toy. It’s light weight and thin. It’s so much harder to keep going but since I’ve done a lot of practice on my fitness hoop, I can now keep this light one up and going. I have even learned some new moves and trick by watching YouTube videos.

Hula hoop -Santana Hoops.  Exercise ball- Walmart

Exercise Ball- I recently purchased the exercise ball. (AKA stability ball, yoga ball, or Swiss ball). I was going to use it for an office chair. It suppose to help with core strength, balance and posture when used as a chair. However, after getting the thing pumped up, It’s way to big to big to just toss in my car and take to work. I decided to use it at home instead. I found a great stability ball workout app that takes me through a routine of moves to either loose weight or tone up. You can pick a workout to target the areas you want to work on.

There ya have it. So far, all of these activities work to help me keep active and toned.

For those that are able to workout, what are some of your workout choices? Do you go to the gym or workout at home? What are some ways you keep moving?
