Pepino Melon

I have been trying new foods lately. I am not afraid to try anything that’s edible. There are not many foods I do not like. There are several I do not like enough to eat all the time but still do not find them terrible.

Here is a cute little fruit I found called a Pepino Melon.

Despite the name, a Pepino Melon is not really a melon at all. It is a fruit from a South America evergreen. It is actually related to a tomato or eggplant.

They start out green and turn yellow once ripe. The skin is soft and rubbery and easy to cut and peel. I did not see any seeds or core in the center.

I was pleasantly surprised by the taste and added it to my yogurt bowl. It had a unique taste somewhere between a pear and a honeydew.
Will I buy this again? I’m not sure. It was a little expensive for its size.

What is a food you have recently tried for the first time?

  1. You have taught me something new. I have never heard of this melon before but it sounds interesting.

  2. I am seeing more and more 'different' fruits imported. I haven't tried a new fruit in years. Now I have tried different apples. Traveling in New York I fell in love with the Empire Apple, but I was disappointed in its staying power. It mellowed too soon for me. That is the closest I have come to exploring new fruit.
But this little sucker is pretty and the meat of the fruit looks very good.
    Sherry & jack

  3. I love trying different fruits and veggies. I loved the ramakan fruit I recently tried - it tasted like a lychee and it was super cute and furry!!

  4. I've never heard of this type of fruit.
I can't think of the the last time I tried something new.

  5. We found some cherry plums at the store and bought them. They were really good!

  6. The chunks almost look like a pear and pineapple

  7. The inside looks similar to a mango? YUM

  8. How different. So new to me. thanks for sharing another new fruit with us. Have a great weekend.

  9. When my kids were little, they would get all excited over "mystery fruit" nights. I've never seen one of these at our grocery store. If I do, I'll buy one.
