People Are Rude!

Sometimes I wonder if people are more rude than ever or if I'm just turning into an old fogey.

We went to a restaurant this past weekend because I really wanted some crab legs from Duffy's Seafood Shack. Don’t let the word "shack" confuse you. This place looks like a shack but the food is delicious and the prices are high. It’s more expensive than I usually will spend on a meal but since we were on a little short vacation, we thought we’d splurge a little.

The restaurant was not quiet as crowded as it usually is and we were seated fairly quick. We placed our order and nibbled on some peanuts while we waited for our food to come out. As soon as our food arrived, so did a group of ladies. Twelve of them to be exact. They looked high class as they were all dressed in designer clothes and fancy pocketbooks.

They were really having a good time and I think that's great but they were so loud! They were terrible! Seriously. They screamed at the top of their lungs back and forth at each other and laughed like hyenas. I could see other people doing eye rolls as they too had to hear the obnoxious behavior.

We were sitting at the table beside them. I could not hear my own voice much less Nicks. I think I swallowed my food whole as I was a nervous wreck. Not only were they loud but we had to hear all about pet surgeries, PMS issues and bad pedicures! I was disgusted. If our food was not already at the table, we would have asked the waiter to move us.

Needless to say, we did not get to enjoy our 50.00 meal. The girls got the stink eye look from me as we were leaving. Nick told me to leave it alone. It was obvious they wanted to make a scene and wanted someone to say something to them. It was not my place to say anything, or was it? I understand they were having a good time but really??? People are just rude!

What would you have done in this situation?

  1. Sigh.
I think I WOULD have asked to be moved.
Having fun at other people's expense is indeed rude. And classless.

  2. I would have done what you did and developed heartburn from holding it all inside. I agree people aren't as thoughtful as they should be at times, and one of those times should be in a restaurant. I go out to eat and would love to do it in peace and quiet, but there's always someone that wants to draw attention or maybe as you said "wasn't raised properly.

  3. They are everywhere. Some grow out of it. Some reproduce.

  4. I like Wheeler's comment. LOL
Most likely I (we) would have done as you did. Sometimes I get upset at myself for not being AS RUDE as someone else and letting them KNOW it. I MIGHT have asked to be moved, but I doubt it.

I would have been like Sylvia. BUT WISH I could be like Elephand's child. LOL
Life goes on and it is mostly GOOD! (I bet St. Nick keeps you out of hair pulling fights! hahahahahahah)

  5. Some people are so rude and the sad part is that they don't even realize it.
I would have liked to asked to be moved but I probably would have just sat there. : )

  6. I agree some people are just rude. I went to Walmart a few weeks ago, and the cashier was so rude to this guy in front of me for no reason. The cashier was an older lady, but she had the worst attitude.

  7. Goodness! Yes, I probably would have summoned the waiter - even after the food had arrived - and moved. Then the staff could have asked the party of - certainly not LADIES - to tone it down! Silence doesn't seem to make any difference to a situation - albeit I, too, often sit and remain silent. I'm working on that...

  8. It's sad that you looked forward to this visit, knew it would be a splurge, and then THIS happens! I don't blame the women as much as I do the restaurant personnel. When I see a table set up for a party of eight or more, there is no way I want to be seated next to it. Nor the front door, or the door to the kitchen. Good restaurants will have parties off in an area or corner where they won't bother people. I may be going against the grain heel in comments, but my family and friends have often celebrated or just gotten together at restaurants where we tend to get louder, talking across the table and such, but as I said, we are seated away from other diners. I really get how you feel, I would have asked the waitress to be seated somewhere else, and encourage them to seat larger parties away from regular diners. Sincerely, I might have even asked the management/owners for a portion of your bill exchanged.

  10. I think I would have finished my meal and left. It is a shame people are so rude.

  11. Were they drinking? That often makes them worse especially in groups.

I was sitting next to a father and daughter at an IHOP once and I could hear every word he said clearly. His daughter was at a normal level, but it was annoying especially as he went on some giant rant against all types of people in his life. Made me want to look back and scream "you know you look like Mr. Perfect yourself, NOT!"
