Long Week at The Beach

We decided to take a long beach trip. I needed the getaway after losing my job. I did a lot of thinking and even put a plan in place. I will share that in another post.

We spent twelve days away this time. We would have stayed longer but we have a doctor appointment and a wedding to attend this week. I think this was one of the best trips we have had. It was nice not having to log into work or worry about making up the work load when I get home.

The weather was nice with temperatures hovering in the 70’s. We spent a lot of time relaxing on the beach, long walks and dipping our toes in the ocean. I even got my tan back. However, some days were rather chilly and windy, but we still enjoyed the outdoors all the same.

I tried to read a book. I’m a slow reader and can’t have any distractions. I made it to chapter four. I just couldn’t do it. I felt like I was missing too much around me when I had my nose in a book. People were letting their dogs play on the beach and we watched the fishermen fish from the surf all day. I have decided that if I ever move to the beach, I’m gonna take up that sport.

I got to pet a crab. They will usually run, but this one wanted a back rub. Enjoy the video.

We also watched the shrimp boat at work all day. I love when they pull in the nets and all the birds start flocking the docks. You will often see dolphins putting on a show as they follow behind.

There was a yard sale at the campground on Saturday morning. It was one of the coldest days, So we got up early, bundled up and headed out for an early walk up to the event. I didn’t buy anything because I didn’t see anything I couldn’t live without. However, I did return with a warm coffee.

We had a few nice dinners and I finally got my hands on some steamed oysters one night at a little oyster bar near the campground. We met up with my brother in law and niece. Later we headed down to the pier for social time with some of the locals. We were in by 10pm.

This will probably be our last beach trip for the year. We now have the camper winterized and ready to be stored away for the Winter. We will bring it back out in the Spring. Now it’s time to start preparing for Thanksgiving and Christmas with family.

  1. I used to take my daughter to Morehead City to visit her father when she was young. She'd spend the week with him and I spent my time on Atlantic beach or in Beaufort. It was a wonderful vacation. The beaches are beautiful. Hope this will leave you feeling rejuvenated.

  2. You really love the beach Lisa :) I'm glad you had a nice trip. Sometimes getting away gives us a chance to clear our head and truly enjoy life. Wishing you a wonderful new week my friend!

  3. We are sure glad you guys had a great time. YEP it is nice to take a vacation and not have a 'job' staring you in the face with a back log of work. You get a small taste of 'retirement' that way.
Neat you met Crabbie the friendly crab. LOL
Love from over here. It is good to have you back....

  4. Hi Lisa
Sounds like a relaxing and much needed vacation, thats great! I am like you reading, I cant have distractions. That sounds like a great getaway, I love fish too,not oysters, but hubby loves em!
    enjoy your week
    jess xx

  5. Sounds like a perfect week, Lisa - I look forward to reading about the plan you came up with!

  6. I do like the beach too much to read, though if I lived near the beach all the time, my mind might change.

  7. I can't read on the beach either and I love to read. When I am sitting with my toes in the sand, I want to be absorbing every wave, every breeze, and every critter on the beach. The bathtub is the best place to read. :)

  8. Sounds like a nice relaxing time at the beach for you which was what you needed. : )
I just read Friends I have never met on your side bar. It expresses so well the friendships here in blogland. Did you write it and would you mind if I put it on my blog. Will give you the credit.

    1. Its free to share! It is not my own. I found it on the internet somewhere a while back.

  9. You needed this trip my friend! I’m glad it was able to give you some clarity and a plan to move forward!

  10. I am so happy that you were able to take a nice vacation at the beach Lisa. I hope everything works out for you.

  11. I lived in the Pacific Northwest for 24 years and getaways to the Oregon coast were a favorite pastime. I'm in South Dakota now and the ocean is the one thing I miss. Well, that and Trader Joe's!

  12. being at the beach for 12 days sounds like heaven to me. i love crabs and oysters. it's nice to know you had a great time.

  13. I just learned about a benefit for veterans that I’d never heard of. It’s a military vacation club and they have places on beaches all around the world and the prices for many of them is $349 for 7 nights lodging.
We want to try one out at a beach somewhere in the south to see how the accommodations are.
