Snake Plant Suprise

I am not a very good plant mom. My plants suffer. I usually keep my collection to just succulents. I have an Aloe plant that seems to be very happy though. Nick saved it from the “free” plants at Food Lion one day. It was pitiful and ready to be be thrown away. He scooped it up and brought it home. It has grown into a big healthy plant.

My only other house plant that I have been able to keep alive is my Snake plant. A popular low-maintenance plant with tall sword like leaves. Also known as the Mother in law’s tongue. This plant has been my favorite. It hasn’t grown tall but has grown wide and I have to continue putting it in a bigger pot.

I still abuse it though as I do not water it as much as I should. I went a few weeks without watering it. I finally watered it one afternoon. When I looked at it the next evening, I noticed it had some sort of flowering stalks growing from it. I had to run to my phone and google it. Come to find out that these plants will produce flowers. However, it is rare and the plant has to be over two years old.

Get this…..I also read that when these plants produce flowers, it is actually a sign of neglect. Well, what a surprise. My negligence turned into something beautiful. I knew at that moment, this was the plant that I deserved.

Have you ever seen a snake plant bloom?

What is a plant that caught you by surprise?
