No soliciting

I don't know about you but I don't like people that I don't know to knock at my door. Honestly, they are not welcome.

Unless your selling those "worlds best chocolate bars" for your school, you will waste your time standing on the porch.

It's funny how we act when we hear the doorbell. We turn the tv down, get real quiet and tip toe to the peephole or window blind and peer out. As this is going on, I will text my neighbor up the road to be on the look out for strangers at the door. If they hit her house first, she will warn me. It's rather comical.

I'm seriously thinking about getting me a nice "no soliciting" sign.

I seen this wreath that was tasteful and pretty.

Maybe I could do a "notice" sign like this one.

However, If they catch us while we are outside in the yard, I will usually let them do their speech, then I politely let them know I'm not interested and wish them luck. After all, I realize this is their job and they get paid to annoy neighbors. They probably don't like what they do but its the only job they could come by at the time. So, if they do get lucky enough to approach me, I'm not rude.

How do you turn away those pesty salesmen or religious speaches? Do you answer the door and let them continue or do you cut them off and make them leave?

  1. I say thanks, but no thanks.
And I dislike the telephone solicitors at least as much.

  7. I usually try to let them know right away that I am not interested, I'm never rude unless they simply start getting pushy.

  8. I could parrot Jimmy's words. Fortunately with our life style we seldom have the problem, but on very rare occasions it happens. Usually someone wanting to wash or wax the MH. I have only been forced to be 'rude' a couple times in my life and I am happy about that.
On phone solicitors, When I could hear and was in business I answered every phone call. I had a friend who had a 'sweat shop' and I knew the ropes. I would just speak over them saying No thanks and hang up. My friend hurt my feelings when he told me "Jack if you get a call from my group or someone like me, you are on what is sold as a 'sucker list'. You have given, bought or acted interested at least one time, Now you are on a list that in the trade is referred to as a 'Sucker list'. Sad but true. There are different sucker lists for: Charities, sales and politics.

  10. You are too funny, Lisa!! I love that last sign! Thankfully, my house is pretty remote so I never get strangers knocking at my door. I used to hate it when I lived in other spots, though - the JW used to knock occasionally, it was so aggravating.

  11. I want one of those ring doorbells that let me see who is there on my phone. I going to have to wait til Christmas, they are expensive.
This is why I have tall sons. I let them answer the door. You can't sell those 2 anything except the Chocolate bars from the school.

  16. I have a dead pit bull and you would be surprised at how effective deterrent he is. We rarely get unwelcome guests. And he's not a mean dog. He just looks mean.

    1. Dang autocorrect- I meant deaf pit bull in the comment above. Though I do have a dead one in our pet cemetery. People tend to throw out undesirable dogs here.
